About Serena

Serena Saotome Feniger is an actor, director, and musical theater composer/orchestrator originally from Sacramento, CA. She is proudly half-Japanese and has spent many of her winters and summers in Tokyo with her grandma, visiting different cities and even dancing at Dance Works Shibuya. 

She graduated with a BA from Yale University with honors in Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies. Through the Shen Curriculum for Musical Theater, she studied musical theater performance with Andréa Burns and musical theater composition/lyricism with Scott Frankel, Joshua Rosenblum, and Michael Korie. In Spring 2024, she completed the Classical Acting Semester at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

Serena has performed professionally with Broadway Sacramento at Music Circus and Sacramento Theatre Company. She has acted in a variety of genres, from Shakespeare to musical comedies. At Yale, she performed in numerous productions; favorite roles include Lady Nijō/Win in Top Girlby Caryl Churchill and Rhoda in A New Brain.

Serena has directed various productions, including The Last Five Years at Yale, and spent two summers assistant directing at The Muny, working with directors John Tartaglia, Josh Rhodes, and Maggie Burrows.

As a passionate composer and orchestrator, Serena aims to amplify Asian voices in musical theater both on and off stage. Her original musical, Homecoming, received high praise upon its premiere at Yale University in April 2025. At Yale, she also music directed her all women's a cappella group, Something Extra, for two years, leading and arranging for the group. In addition, she is producing their album, which will be available on all streaming platforms this fall.
